Welcome!

It is my goal to make any of your musical dreams come true since I am so blessed to have mine come true. As a child, I always loved playing the piano for others, and I never would have thought that I would get to do it professionally. When I play for an audience or even a small crowd, I can’t quite express the happiness that I feel. To know that my music is touching at least one soul brings me overwhelming joy. Not only that but to be able to give that gift of playing and performing, or even just understanding music, to others is something I will never take for granted. I love teaching people piano and music theory because I believe that music is a beautiful, universal language that everyone should know to an extent. Whether you are a parent of a child who has never touched the piano, you’re a teen looking for a new hobby, or you’re an adult who thinks that their chance to learn piano is a thing of the past, your chance to make music come alive is never over. I would love to take that first step with you!

The Services I Offer

  • Piano Lessons

I offer piano lessons to people of all ages and skill levels. I teach my students on a Performance Series YAMAHA Baby Grand Piano. In our first lesson, I will assess the skill level of my student to see what they excel in and what areas we can work on. Then after that, I will do my own research on which books will be most efficient for teaching them. I typically teach with a lesson or recital book, along with a fun book, song, or piece chosen by the student, and with a theory book because I believe it is crucial to learn and play the pieces you enjoy in addition to your theory and technical education.

  • Music Theory Lessons

Although I already offer music theory education in addition to the piano lessons I give, I would never be opposed if a student would simply like to learn only music theory, whether that be because they already have an instrumental or vocal teacher or if they’re looking to upgrade their music-theoretical knowledge before entering into a music school.

  • Hire for Gigs And Accompaniment

I am available to play gigs in a variety of areas including but not limited to coffee shops, open houses, restaurants, parties, birthday parties, weddings, and churches. About Me

My name is Tanner Michael King Harrington, and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music pursuing a Music Marketing Major with a focus on piano performance and pedagogy.

I am a pianist with a large repertoire that I build on daily which ranges from classical music to pop culture music. Some of my favorite classical composers are Frédéric Chopin, Alexander Scriabin, Maurice Ravel, Claud Debussy, and the well-known Ludwig van Beethoven.

I have been in love with playing piano and studying music since I was 7 years old. It is my goal in life to continue teaching and performing piano for the rest of my life. I have been teaching piano and music theory for a number of years, and I am readily available to teach new students. I would be overjoyed to teach anyone, whether young or old, beginner or expert.

Reviews

  • "I can’t say enough good things about Tanner. I’ve known him since he was a small child, and it’s been a blessing to see him blossom into such a responsible and talented young man. I am a voice teacher, a performer, and hold a BFA in vocal performance. But I knew my piano skills needed much growth, so I reached out to the “kid next door” to be my teacher. As his neighbor, I love hearing him practice, and can full heartedly recommend him for any gig. As his student, I have been over the moon about my progress in a short amount of time. I’ve had many “ah ha” moments as we discuss theory, and I tell him stories about my college theory days. I teach for “Ah ha” moments, and Tanner clearly does too, he’s a natural. I’m like a kid in a candy shop when something I’ve known for years just “clicks” because of Tanner’s fresh approach and incredibly clear explanations. If my voice students ever need a piano teacher, I know who I’m sending them to. Bravo, Tanner!"

  • "My two kids have been receiving piano lessons with Tanner for a year now. They are progressing well. Tanner is very mature and has qualities of a great teacher. He listens, is patient, is enthusiastic in his praise, and gentle in his criticism. He allows children to select music they like but still ground them in the fundamentals. My friend is now getting lessons for her child as well and she feels the same way about Tanner. "

  • "I took classes from Tanner during my senior year of high school. Unfortunately, due to university I was not able to continue, but I really enjoyed taking classes from him. Not only did he make piano fun, but also made sure I learned the fundamentals."

  • "Tanner is a very thoughtful and thorough teacher. For the longest time, I was a self taught student who learned solely from books, YouTube, and online courses. When I started taking lessons from Him, I noticed that my learning became much more efficient. There were pieces that I gave up on learning myself that He was able to walk me through in a couple of lessons. Although I have not fully mastered these pieces yet, He has saved me many hours by walking me through the technique and theory behind these pieces and music in general. I recommend Tanner to anyone who wants to start or continue learning and mastering the piano!"

  • "We found Mr. Tanner through Homebrew Coffeeshop, where he plays on Fridays and Saturdays. He is very responsive, friendly, accommodating, and approachable. Mr. Tanner is the fourth teacher we’ve had and he is the most affordable option with flexibility. What we love is how well he works with kids and he takes time, without rushing students through lessons or pieces. It’s been a good experience so far."
